Margaretville Park Pavilion
In the spring semester, the Team, comprised of 11 Parsons students, designed a single pavilion which was approved by the Margaretville Village Board in late May. The Spring Design Studio, organized by faculty member David J. Lewis, was structured to enable the collaborative nature of The Design Workshop worked through the design process to arrive at a single scheme that was refined through models, studies, full-scale mock-ups and construction documents. By the end of the spring semester, the Team had a near-final set of construction documents, construction materials identified, a budget established and were ready to begin the summer construction on site.
During the summer months, the Team, enabled by Terry Erickson and Joel Stoehr, moved to Margaretville to realize the design. The Team excavated the site, poured the foundations, prepared and erected the steel, raised the roof, clad the deck, framed the kitchen, and completed work on the BBQ pavilion. In the end, the Team finalized their work on a re-imaged park pavilion for the Town of Margaretville which included a diverse range of spaces to support the multiple and overlapping uses that the pavilion will serve as a central meeting point of the town:
-A main meeting space uninterrupted by columns at the heart of the pavilion
-An extensive loggia adjacent to the main space, providing views to the sports field
-The kitchen area complete with folding screens and sliding doors
-The ample raised deck overlooking the Delaware River
-A new detached BBQ pavilion for cooking and grilling
-A light tower open to the sky to anchor the pavilion and provide iconic status
