Senior Secondary School Pepel

Our most recent DesignBuild Studio - Senior Secondary School Pepel offers the change of a continuing education inside the community of Pepel, a small but important village on the northern shore of Tangrin Bay, the sea loch north of Sierra Leones capital Freetown.

The building offers four classrooms, teachers room, a library, a kiosk and additional space for selforganized learning or learning in smaller groups. This offer of different types of rooms enables standard ex-cathedra teaching as well as more innovative types of learning. The building is situated around an inner courtyard, which is the core of the school and offers spaces for meetings and community activities.

The building should provide a better education and open up the imagination of working fields for the youth of Pepel, while the village is at the moment mostly depending on the activities of the ore harbour.

Therefore the project also aims for the training of sustainalbe building methods especially with bamboo to already produce job opportunities during the building phase.
