NETZ | WERK | STADT – Urban Refugees
NETZ I WERK I STADT is project created in the context of the master program‚ 'Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design‘ at the University of Stuttgart.
Under the title „Urban Refugees in Stuttgart“ different concepts for a better integration of refugees into the local society have been developed by an international group of students.
NETZ I WERK I STADT deals with the challenge of the long/idle waiting periods for asylum-seekers in Germany by creating a Neighborhood Coffee Shop and an Urban Garden. Here residents of the accommodation, neighbors and students can share and develop personal and professional skills and knowledge. It activates the community to participate in every step from the early beginning. The aim was not only to implement the project, but also to strengthen the connection between the refugees.
The project tackles following questions: How to push for a better integration of the refugees in the local society where they live? How to make them feel as active contributors to the community? How to provide them with a place that makes the best use of their abilities?
