Piren

The pier is part of a larger project to liven up the commons and end of Kongens Gata. Together with stairways goal was to make Nidelva and quay area more accessible to the public. The pier is 12 meters from the stair edge and gives a whole new perspective of the river.

Along with its simple purpose, the focus has been to create an aesthetic design that has been produced in an almost industrial way. The design is a simple truss, but the width of each rod is

optimised for its strength requirements. This has been possible through the close partnership with Nathalie Labonnote at SINTEF, where she as an engineer was an important part of the actual design.

The bridge is designed as a kit, almost like Lego. Every piece is different but fit together so that installation is simple and effective. This has been possible using the milling machine to Snekkeriet in Verdal. The project was built for Trondheim municipality as a part of the project “En blå Tråd”.
