Aims and expectations
The project-based learning methodology of Design Build allows students to understand the context of another culture, the social-political environment as well as maybe even construction in another country and climate.Starting with research of local material systems (mostly vernacular systems) and the local environment up to detailed design plans students experience the full range of a construction project. Students learn to work with constraints such as the short construction time, limitations of available materials, budget constraints and local regulations. But much more important is to develop a strong awareness for the built environment in the specific culture and enhance an adequateness of applied construction methods.
