Organized by the Institute of Design II under the direction of Dalibor Hlaváček, the conference will focus on the teaching of design-build projects at architecture schools.

International DesignbuildXchange Award 2024 Winners

The International DesignBuildXchange Award 2024 received a diverse range of competition entries. The jury was particularly impressed by the variety of methodological, thematic and constructive approaches presented. These projects ranged from two-week summer school initiatives to long-term commitments, combining action and learning as iterative processes alongside in-depth research integration.

We are pleased to celebrate the relaunch of the dbXchange web platform with an award for new DesignBuild projects.
 

Call for Projects
The Call for Projects is open to DesignBuild projects that have been realized within the last three years (2020-2023) and are published on the dbXchange website. We are looking forward to new approaches to technology, sustainability, circular economy and scaling; to new focus areas such as
social justice, interdisciplinary work and pedagogy; to new insights into funding, ethics and project evaluation.

Design For The Common Good International Exhibition Budapest 2023

Agency, empowerment, impact: these characteristics distinguish the work featured in the Design for the Common Good International Exhibition. In its first international venue outside of the United States, the Design for the Common Good Network, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Budapest Metropolitan University Faculty of Art and Creative Industries are pleased to present this curated collection of thirty-two projects from six continents and twenty-three countries.

Förderprojekt der Sto-Stiftung: „DesignBuild_Joint perspectives“ als erstes Buch verfügbar

Die von der Sto-Stiftung unterstützte Buchreihe „DesignBuild REFLECT" beleuchtet theoriebildende und projektübergreifende Fragestellungen der Lehr- und Lernmethode „DesignBuild“. Als erstes der auf vier Bücher angelegten Reihe ist nun „DesignBuild_Joint perspectives“ erschienen und kostenlos erhältlich. In diesem Buch erörtern die Autorinnen und Autoren eine gemeinsame DesignBuild-Hypothese anhand des Spannungsfeldes zwischen gesellschaftlicher Transformation, Architekturausbildung und -produktion.

The materia award was inspired by the success of the TERRA Award (2016), the FIBRA Award (2019) and the TERRAFIBRA Award (2021) and is a continuity of these first three editions.

STO-DesignBuild - call 2024 Deadline December 15

The DesignBuild competition is going into the next round: In 2024, we are again offering grants in the disciplines DesignBuild PROJECT and DesignBuild REFLECT. Applications will be accepted online only at www.sto-stiftung.de/designbuild starting September 18. The closing date for entries is December 15, 2023.

We are proud to announce that the dbXchange association received a grant from the STO Foundation to develop INSIGHTdb, a series of events, lectures and publications that will be featured on the dbXchange website.

Center for Visual Art presents: Design for the Common Good International Exhibition January 14 – March 19, 2022

The exhibition highlights projects designed collaboratively with communities to create opportunity and solutions from within. The resulting exchange of ideas in this exhibition provides compelling evidence that designers and stakeholders work best together when sharing local resources and knowledge that aim to improve quality of life for people worldwide.
